# Placing Assets on Floor Plans

> How to scan and place assets during a wall-to-wall inventory walk

## When to Use This

* **New equipment intake** — IT receives a batch of new laptops or medical devices. Tech scans each barcode and taps the floor plan to record its staging location before deployment.
* **Initial inventory build** — A new facility has a floor plan uploaded but no asset records yet. Tech walks every room, scans each device, and places a pin on the map. Admin assigns zone names from the dashboard later.
* **Post-renovation relayout** — A wing was renovated and equipment was moved around. Tech walks the updated layout placing assets at their new positions to reset stale records.
* **Spot-placing a new asset mid-round** — During normal rounds, tech finds a device that isn't in the system. They switch to Scan & Place, pin it to the map, and continue their round without breaking flow.

You don't need to know room names to place assets — tap the location on the map and an admin will assign the zone name from the dashboard later.

## How to Place an Asset

1. From the home screen, tap **Place Assets**
2. Select a floor
3. Tap **Scan & Place** and scan the asset barcode (or use your hardware trigger)
4. The floor plan enters tap mode — tap where the asset is
5. A pin appears. Repeat for the next asset.

## Pin Colors

| Color  | Meaning                                      |
| ------ | -------------------------------------------- |
| Orange | Placed by you this session                   |
| Gray   | Placed, but not yet assigned to a named zone |
| Green  | Placed and assigned to a zone                |

## What Happens If an Asset Isn't in the Roster?

If a scanned barcode isn't in the asset roster, Forager creates a minimal record for it automatically. An admin can fill in the name, type, and other details later.

## Leaving a Session

Tap the back button to see your session summary. Your placements are saved even if you exit the app.
