Ravens are small wireless beacons attached to assets. They periodically broadcast their identity and battery level to Gateway concentrators deployed in your facility, so Forager can confirm asset presence even when no tech is nearby. As a field tech, you don’t provision Ravens — your admin handles that. Your interactions with Ravens are:
  • Checking beacon status when an asset hasn’t been confirmed recently
  • Scanning an NFC sticker to identify which asset a Raven is attached to

When to use Raven Fleet

  • Checking why an asset shows as overdue — The dashboard shows an asset hasn’t been confirmed in weeks but no tech has had reason to walk that area. Open Raven Fleet to see if the assigned Raven is still checking in — if it is, the asset is likely still present.
  • A beacon shows Late or Offline — Open Raven Fleet to check the last check-in time and compare against neighboring beacons. If an entire wing went offline at the same time, the gateway is probably the issue. If only one beacon is offline, that unit needs attention.
  • Identifying a detached beacon — A Raven was found separated from its asset. Scan its NFC sticker to pull up its assignment record and find out which asset it belongs to.
  • Verifying a new installation — After a contractor places Ravens in a new area, open Raven Fleet to confirm each unit has checked in before accepting the installation.

Beacon card

Each Raven appears as a card showing:

Status chips

A Late or Offline status doesn’t necessarily mean the asset is missing — it means the beacon hasn’t reported recently. Check the battery level and confirm the asset is still in range of a Gateway.

Scanning an NFC sticker

Every Raven has an NFC sticker attached near it on the asset. Scanning the sticker identifies the asset instantly — useful when you’re at the equipment and want to confirm what you’re looking at without hunting for a barcode.
1

Tap the NFC area on your phone to the sticker

Hold the NFC-capable area of your phone (usually the back, center) near the small NFC sticker on or near the asset.
2

The app opens automatically

If Forager is installed, your phone opens the Raven detail screen for that beacon, showing the asset name, location, and recent check-in history.
If nothing happens when you tap the sticker, make sure NFC is enabled on your phone — go to Settings → Connected devices → NFC and toggle it on.

Raven badge on asset cards

When a Raven is assigned to an asset, a small 📡 badge appears on the asset’s card in the asset roster and attestation log. This indicates that asset has automated presence confirmation active in addition to manual scanning.
